Young Adult and Emerging Adult Therapy (Ages 16–30)

Young adulthood is a period of rapid change — academically, professionally, relationally, and internally. It is also often when anxiety, depression, identity concerns, and long-standing emotional patterns become more visible or harder to manage.

Many people at this stage describe feeling high-functioning on the outside while internally overwhelmed, self-critical, or uncertain about who they are and where they are going.

Therapy at Insight Psychology provides a structured space to slow down, understand these patterns, and develop stability and clarity during a formative stage of life.

Why This Stage Matters

Late adolescence and early adulthood are often when:

• Anxiety becomes more persistent
• Depressive symptoms intensify
• Perfectionism begins to feel unsustainable
• Substance use becomes a coping strategy
• Attachment patterns show up clearly in relationships
• Identity questions feel urgent
• Personality traits solidify into patterns

Early identification and structured support during this stage can significantly improve long-term emotional health and relational functioning.

Treatment integrates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic and attachment-informed approaches, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills, and evidence-based interventions tailored to the developmental stage of young adulthood.

Dr. Sapoff’s experience in inpatient and outpatient hospital settings allows for careful assessment when symptoms are emerging or evolving. Therapy focuses not only on symptom relief, but on identifying patterns early and building long-term stability, insight, and resilience.
